Best AI Visibility Tools Compared

A comparison of the main AI visibility trackers based on what each vendor publishes, with the price per tracked prompt worked out, and the free options that come first.

Updated 1 November 20266 min read

Short answer

For most small businesses the best AI visibility tool is the free pair of reports from Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools, plus a prompt log. Among the trackers we compared, entry prices in November 2026 start at USD 29 a month for 15 prompts (Otterly.AI Lite), and published prices work out at about 1.22 to 3.80 per tracked prompt in the currencies shown.

Our verdict first

Start free. Google Search Console's generative AI report and Bing Webmaster Tools' AI Performance report cost nothing and show first-party numbers. Add a paid tracker when the number of prompts, markets or competitors makes manual checking slow, and pick on the engines you need covered, not on the dashboard.

We have not tested any of these tools. This comparison uses the features and prices each vendor publishes, as we read them in November 2026. Pricing pages change, and several show different currencies by region, so confirm before you subscribe.

How we compared

  • Source. Vendor pricing and feature pages, opened in November 2026. We did not sign up for any account.
  • Prices. Shown in the currency the page displayed to us. Billing periods were sometimes unclear, and we say so where they were.
  • Per-prompt cost. Our arithmetic: monthly price divided by included prompts. It is a rough yardstick, because tools count prompts, engines and frequency differently.
  • Left out. Enterprise-only platforms that publish no price are listed but not priced.

The comparison

Tool Entry price shown Prompts at entry Engines listed on the page Worth knowing
Peec AI USD 95 a month (Starter) 50 ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Gemini, Naver AI Three engines active at once on the listed plans; Perplexity and several model APIs appear on Enterprise only
Otterly.AI USD 29 a month (Lite); the page shows a second set of prices about 15% lower 15 ChatGPT, AI Overviews, Perplexity, Copilot; Claude, AI Mode and Gemini as paid add-ons Add-ons for extra engines raise the real cost, for example Claude from USD 29 a month on Lite
Profound No self-serve price on the page 50 on a 7-day free trial Up to 9 engines on Enterprise, including ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode, Claude Enterprise is quote only; an agency plan is mentioned without a price
Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit EUR 94.94 a month per domain, billed annually 25 ChatGPT, Google AI, Gemini, Perplexity Daily tracking; one domain for brand performance on the base plan
Ahrefs Brand Radar Custom prompts from USD 50 a month; AI Visibility Index from USD 199 a month Index: 83 a day AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot; Claude on the Index Free for some paid Ahrefs plans according to the page, though the wording is not fully clear
SE Ranking AI Visibility add-on from EUR 64 a month 75 at the lowest visible tier AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, ChatGPT, Copilot and others Core and Growth plans also include tracking of 25 prompts daily across 5 engines
Clearscope USD 129 a month (Essentials) 50 tracked queries ChatGPT and Gemini query tracking Primarily a content tool, with tracking in every plan

What each costs per tracked prompt

This table shows the monthly price divided by included prompts. It is our arithmetic from the published prices above, and is only comparable within reason.

Plan Monthly price Prompts Cost per prompt
Otterly.AI Premium USD 489 400 USD 1.22
Clearscope Business USD 399 300 USD 1.33
Peec AI Advanced USD 495 350 USD 1.41
Peec AI Pro USD 245 150 USD 1.63
Otterly.AI Standard USD 189 100 USD 1.89
Peec AI Starter USD 95 50 USD 1.90
Otterly.AI Lite USD 29 15 USD 1.93
Clearscope Essentials USD 129 50 USD 2.58
Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit Base EUR 94.94 25 EUR 3.80

Two cautions apply. A tool that runs each prompt on six engines is doing more work per prompt than one that runs three. And a cheap prompt count is no bargain if the engine you care about is an extra-cost add-on.

The free options, and their limits

Report What it shows What it lacks
Google Search Console, generative AI performance report Impressions in AI Overviews and AI Mode by page, country, device and date It does not mention clicks or average position; may not appear if your site has too few impressions
Bing Webmaster Tools, AI Performance (preview) Total citations, average cited pages, grounding queries and page-level citations across Copilot and Bing summaries; later additions include topics and citation share No click data, no competitor view, preview status

Neither covers ChatGPT, Claude or Perplexity. That gap is the usual reason to pay.

Which to choose

  • One site, one market, under about 20 prompts. Use the free reports and a spreadsheet. The method is in how to track your brand in AI answers.
  • Roughly 20 to 100 prompts and several engines. Look first at the low and middle tiers of Otterly.AI or Peec AI. Check that your must-have engine is included in the tier, not an add-on.
  • You already pay for Semrush, Ahrefs or SE Ranking. Check the AI tracking inside your current plan or its add-on before a second subscription.
  • You manage many brands or need Claude, Perplexity and other model coverage in one view. Compare Enterprise quotes, including Profound, and ask what engines each price covers.
  • You mostly want to improve pages, not watch them. A content tool such as Clearscope has some tracking inside, but the value is in the editing guidance.

What every tool shares

  • Samples, not census. A tool runs your prompts under its own settings. A real customer's answer can differ with location, history and wording.
  • Modelled volumes. Any figure about how many people ask a prompt is an estimate. Our own October 2026 data on AI prompt volumes, from DataForSEO, exists only for top terms and is modelled too.
  • No inside access. Google's guide says no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking or AI systems.
  • Variance. Ahrefs notes that AI Overviews are probabilistic, so expect the same prompt to differ between runs.

Questions to ask before you subscribe

  1. Which engines are included in this price, and which are add-ons?
  2. How many times is each prompt run, and how often?
  3. Can I export raw answers, or only scores?
  4. How are mentions and citations defined, and can I check an example?
  5. What happens to my history if I cancel?

When not to buy

Do not buy if you have not yet fixed crawl access, or if you cannot say which five questions matter. A dashboard will show you a score for questions that do not matter. Do the manual version first, and keep it up for two months.

If you want the setup done for you, our AI search optimization service includes a visibility audit and we quote in writing. Before you pay for any tool, read what you actually need and choose three prompts to track by hand this week.

Frequently asked questions

Is there an AI tool for SEO?

Yes, many. Suites such as Semrush, Ahrefs and SE Ranking have added AI visibility tracking, and standalone trackers exist. Others use AI to help with content. They solve different jobs, so decide whether you need to measure visibility or speed up production.

What does an AI visibility tool actually do?

It runs a list of prompts on a schedule across assistants such as ChatGPT and Google AI features, records which brands and links appear, and charts how that changes. It samples answers. It does not see what every user receives.

Are AI visibility tools accurate?

They are consistent samples, which is useful for trends. They are not a census, because answers vary between runs and users. Google states that no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking or AI systems, so treat scores as estimates.

Do I need a paid AI visibility tool?

Not at the start. If you track fewer than about 20 prompts for one market, a spreadsheet and the free Google and Bing reports can do the job. Pay when manual checking costs more than the subscription.
