AI Search for Fintech: How Assistants Describe Your Brand
For regulated brands, the risk in AI answers is less about being left out and more about being described wrongly. Here is how to check, and what to fix.
Short answer
Assistants describe a fintech brand by blending your pages with third-party sources, and they can get licences, entities or eligible countries wrong. Run a monthly test of 12 prompts, log every factual error, and publish one clear page per regulated entity. Google says no special markup is needed, so put accuracy and crawl access first.
Why does this matter more in finance?
An error about a restaurant costs a booking. An error about a broker's licence can mislead someone about who protects their money. That is why regulated brands should treat AI answers as a compliance topic as well as a marketing one.
AI answers are already a normal part of results pages. Google AI Overviews appeared on all 33 of the results pages we sampled in October 2026, and a re-test of 10 showed an AI answer first each time. That sample was small and built around our own topics, so read it as direction and not a market-wide rate.
Our data also suggests people ask assistants different questions from the ones they type into Google. "Is SEO dead" gets about 590 Google searches a month against an estimated 8,650 AI prompts, on DataForSEO's US estimates. Those figures concern SEO, and we have no equivalent for fintech terms. Volume for fintech topics in assistants is unmeasured, so this page focuses on accuracy, which you can control.
Which errors should worry you?
Sort errors by harm. Some are embarrassing, and others could mislead a customer or a regulator. The examples below are illustrative.
| Error type | Illustrative example | Why it matters | First fix |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wrong entity | Describes the EU firm's protections when the user would join a non-EU group company | Protections apply to one legal entity | One page per entity, clearly separated |
| Wrong licence status | Says "regulated" with no regulator, or names an old one | Could mislead about authorisation | Publish exact status, with register link |
| Wrong countries | Says you accept clients where you do not | Could look like solicitation | State countries served and not served |
| Stale offer | Mentions a bonus you ended years ago | Bonus language is restricted for retail CFDs | Remove or redirect old pages |
| Wrong figures | Quotes old fees or margin terms | Misleading on cost or risk | Keep one current facts page |
| Brand confusion | Mixes you with a similarly named firm | Reputation, or worse | Build consistent entity signals |
ESMA's April 2026 MiCA statement makes the entity point directly. It tells consumers that protections apply only to the specific authorised legal entity, and not to other companies in the same group or to non-EU entities, even under a shared brand. If you run that kind of group, assume assistants may blur the line unless you make it very clear.
Run this 12-prompt test every month
A monthly check is cheap and gives you evidence. Replace the brackets with your details, and run each prompt in the assistants your buyers use.
| Group | Prompts |
|---|---|
| Identity | Who owns [brand]? Which company operates [brand] in [country]? Is [brand] regulated, and by whom? |
| Product | What does [brand] charge? What products does [brand] offer in [country]? Does [brand] accept clients from [country]? |
| Comparison | How does [brand] compare with [rival]? What are the best [category] providers in [country]? What are the alternatives to [brand]? |
| Risk | Is [brand] safe? What complaints do people have about [brand]? Has [brand] ever been fined or warned? |
Log these fields in a simple sheet: date, assistant, exact prompt, answer, sources cited, error type and owner. Answers vary between sessions, so treat one run as a sample and look for patterns over several months. For the tooling options, see how to track your brand in AI answers.
The "sources cited" column is the most useful one. If an assistant keeps citing an old review or a stale directory listing, you now know exactly what to fix.
Publish facts assistants can use
Clear, consistent facts in plain text do most of the work. Google says there are no extra requirements for AI Overviews or AI Mode, no new machine-readable files and no special schema. So start with the basics.
- Entity pages. One page per regulated company: legal name, registered address, regulator, licence number, register link and countries served.
- A current facts page. Fees, products and limits, with a visible review date.
- Plain text. Key facts should not live only inside images, PDFs or calculators.
- Consistent profiles. Align your LinkedIn page, directories and app store listings with the site.
- No orphaned offers. Find old promotions and redirect or remove them.
Crawl access needs checking too. OpenAI says OAI-SearchBot is the crawler that affects appearance in ChatGPT search, and that blocking GPTBot signals your content should not be used for training without controlling search visibility. Your security team may have blocked more than it meant to, so review your robots rules and CDN settings. Our llms.txt guide covers the file everyone asks about.
What should you not do?
Keep your AI work to the same standard as the rest of your marketing. Three tactics may look tempting, and we would avoid all of them.
- Publishing "best brokers" lists on your own site with yourself at the top. Comparisons must be fair and sourced, and a self-serving list may also mislead.
- Planting answers on forums or review sites through staff or paid accounts.
- Writing pages for assistants that say something different from your approved marketing.
Whether AI answers themselves count as your promotion is unsettled, and we are not aware of a regulator's position on it. CySEC has listed AI among its thematic interests, though that work concerns firms' own use of it. The safe approach is to assume anything you publish to influence an answer will be read as your marketing.
Report it like a compliance item
Give the error log an owner and a place in your compliance calendar. A short monthly note works: new errors, errors fixed, repeat sources and any item that could mislead a client. If an assistant repeatedly states something false about your authorisation, tell your compliance officer, even if the fix sits with marketing.
We cannot promise any assistant will mention you or get you right, and nobody can. What you can control is the quality of what they read.
Where this fits
Terms such as generative engine optimization describe the wider discipline. For a regulated brand, the order of work is simple: fix your fintech SEO foundations, make the facts unambiguous, then measure.
Run the 12 prompts this week for your main brand, and paste the answers into a sheet. If you find errors you cannot trace, our fintech and forex SEO service can help you work out where they come from.

Frequently asked questions
How do you do AI search optimization for a fintech brand?
Make your facts easy to find and consistent everywhere: entity, licences, countries, fees and products. Allow the relevant crawlers, keep key facts in plain text, correct third-party profiles and check what assistants say each month. Tricks matter far less than clarity.
How do you do SEO for AI search?
Most of it is ordinary SEO done well. Google says standard practices apply and that no special schema or AI text file is needed. For ChatGPT search, your site must be open to OAI-SearchBot.
What is AI search optimization called?
You will see GEO, for generative engine optimization, AEO, for answer engine optimization, and LLM SEO. The labels overlap. All describe making content easy for AI systems to find, understand and cite accurately.
Are AI answers about my firm a financial promotion?
That is an open question for your lawyer. An assistant's answer is not your own communication in the ordinary sense, but pages you publish to shape it are. Hold those pages to the same standard as any other marketing.
