How Much Do Facebook Ads Cost?

Facebook ads are priced by an auction, so there is no price list. This guide explains how Meta bills, what published benchmarks say and how to build a budget for a small market.

Short answer

Facebook ads have no fixed price. Meta charges by an auction, based on impressions or clicks, within a daily or lifetime budget you set. LocaliQ reports average clicks of USD 0.60 to 1.80 by campaign type and USD 27.39 per lead, but results vary widely by industry. Budget by dividing the leads you want by your conversion rate, then multiplying by cost per click.

How does Meta charge for Facebook ads?

Meta charges for the impressions or clicks your ads receive, and an auction sets the price. Its Business Help Centre says the auction picks ads based on maximum bids and ad performance, and that you are charged only the bid needed to win, which can be below your maximum. Ads that were never approved before serving are not charged. The billing pages we read describe charges for ad delivery, and none described a fee for opening an account or using Ads Manager.

You set a daily budget or a lifetime budget. Meta says it stays within the budget you set for each ad, but your account bill can exceed one ad's budget because the bill covers every ad in the account. Meta also adds location fees for digital services taxes when ads are delivered to Austria (5%), France, Italy, Spain (3% each), Turkiye (5%) and the UK (2%). Cyprus is not listed. They sit on top of your budget. With automatic payments you are charged when spending reaches a billing threshold, plus leftover costs on your monthly bill date. With manual payments you add funds first, and Meta draws them down as ads run. The thresholds differ by country and account, so check your own billing settings. These help pages did not load for us in full, so we relied on extracts from them, and you should read them yourself before you set up payment.

What decides the price you pay?

Competition, your audience, your ad's performance and your bidding choice. Meta's Marketing API documentation describes four bid strategies. Lowest cost without a cap gives you no control over cost. A cost cap tries to keep results near a target cost, but the documentation says adherence to the limit is not guaranteed. A bid cap sets a ceiling on what Meta will bid. Minimum return on ad spend sets a floor for value. For several of these the documentation warns that costs can rise as the cheapest opportunities are used up or as you increase your budget.

That last point is the one most budgets miss. Doubling spend rarely doubles results. Scale in steps and watch the cost per result at each step.

The format does not carry its own price. You pay the auction price for impressions or clicks, whatever the format. A format changes your cost only indirectly, through how people respond to it. Video adds a real cost elsewhere, which is producing it. A phone-shot video from your own team costs little. A scripted shoot costs what any shoot costs. Include that in your budget, not only the media spend.

What do benchmark reports say?

LocaliQ's Facebook benchmarks for 2026 (updated 23 September 2026) put the average click at USD 0.60 on traffic campaigns and USD 1.80 on lead campaigns, and the average cost per lead at USD 27.39. By industry, LocaliQ's 2026 page lists USD 61.56 for dentists and dental services and USD 27.11 for health and fitness. Those are very different, which is the point.

Do not apply them to your business without caution:

  • The page credits WordStream by LocaliQ for the data but does not say what period it covers.
  • It gives no sample size, collection method or country split.
  • It covers traffic and lead objectives. A click to your website and a lead form submitted inside Facebook are different events with different costs and quality.
  • Other benchmark roundups we came across give figures that differ widely. We read only LocaliQ's in full, so we do not reproduce the others.
  • A cheap lead is not a cheap customer. Leads from a form on Facebook may need more follow-up than someone who searched for your service.

How big is the audience in Cyprus?

Smaller than most benchmark markets, which changes how a budget behaves. DataReportal's Digital 2026 Cyprus report, with data from late 2025, gives a population of about 1.37 million, 1.30 million internet users, a Facebook advertising reach of 746 thousand and an Instagram advertising reach of 760 thousand (55.3% of the population), estimates from Meta's tools and not active-user counts.

Three practical effects follow. A city audience such as Limassol is a fraction of those totals, so the same people see your ad again and again. Frequent repetition tires an audience, so you need fresh creative sooner. And Greek-language and English-language audiences overlap, so test whether separate ads help or just split your budget.

Worked example: a budget for 15 leads a month

This example is illustrative and uses LocaliQ's published figures. Suppose a local service business wants 15 leads a month from a page where 10% of visitors submit a form.

Method Calculation Monthly ad spend
Low cost per click 15 leads at 10% needs 150 clicks, at USD 0.60 USD 90
High cost per click 150 clicks at USD 1.80 USD 270
Cost per lead 15 leads at USD 27.39 USD 411

So a first-month ad spend of roughly USD 90 to 410 is a sensible range to test, before creative, page and management costs. Now test it against your economics. If 1 in 10 of those leads becomes a customer, 15 leads give 1.5 customers, and USD 411 buys them at about USD 274 each. If a customer earns you EUR 360 in gross profit, that is a thin margin. If it earns you EUR 1,500, it is comfortable. The cost per lead alone does not tell you which.

How can you keep Facebook ad costs under control?

  1. Pick one objective and measure one result, such as leads, not likes.
  2. Install conversion tracking before you spend.
  3. Test two or three different creatives, and stop what does not work.
  4. Change one thing at a time, so you know what moved the cost.
  5. Keep spend steady for a fair learning period before judging a campaign.
  6. Reply to leads fast. Cost per customer depends on follow-up.

Frequently asked questions

Do Facebook ads cost money?

Yes. Meta charges for ad delivery based on impressions or clicks, within the daily or lifetime budget you set. In the billing pages we read, the charges are for delivery, and we found no separate fee for using Ads Manager itself.

How much does a click cost on Facebook ads?

LocaliQ's Facebook benchmarks for 2026 put the average click at USD 0.60 on traffic campaigns and USD 1.80 on lead campaigns. Your own cost depends on your audience, your competitors, your creative and the objective you choose, so run a small test before relying on any average.

How much do Facebook carousel or video ads cost?

The format does not set a price. The auction does, and the format affects cost only through how people respond to it. Video also costs money to produce, so add the cost of filming and editing to the ad budget.

How much does Facebook Ads Manager cost?

Meta's billing pages describe charges for ad delivery, not for using Ads Manager. You can open an account and build campaigns, and you pay as ads run. Check your own billing summary for the exact charges on your account.

How much does it cost to run Facebook ads for a small business?

A test can start small. Our illustrative example for 15 leads a month comes to roughly USD 90 to 410 in ad spend, using LocaliQ's published click and lead costs. Add creative, a landing page and management.
