GEO Services: What Is Included and What It Costs

A plain description of what a GEO engagement contains, what no provider can promise, and the cost drivers to ask about, with the one set of prices we can source.

Short answer

GEO services typically bundle 5 deliverables: a visibility audit, a crawler access review, content changes on named pages, consistency work on profiles and mentions, and monthly monitoring. No provider can guarantee a citation. Sempor Labs quotes in writing after seeing your site, and among the trackers we compared, monitoring tools start at USD 29 a month in November 2026 (Otterly.AI Lite).

What GEO services include

Generative engine optimization services are a bundle of five jobs. A proposal that is missing any of them is either cheap for a reason or vague on purpose.

Deliverable What you receive How you can check it
Visibility audit A baseline of how assistants describe you for a named prompt set Raw answers and dates, not only a score
Access review A report on robots.txt, CDN and firewall rules for search bots from OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity, Google and Bing Server log evidence after the change
Content changes Rewrites of named pages: answer-first sections, specific facts, sourced figures A before and after of each page
Profile and mention work Consistent business details across your site, Google Business Profile and directories; a plan for genuine mentions A list of profiles checked and changed
Monitoring A monthly repeat of the prompt set, plus Search Console and Bing data The same prompts, runs and settings each month

The method is described in how to track your brand in AI answers, and the reasoning behind it in the GEO explainer.

What GEO services cannot include

  • A guaranteed citation or position. Google says indexing and serving are not guaranteed, even for pages that meet every requirement.
  • Control over model training. You can allow or refuse training crawlers. You cannot make a model remember you.
  • Special files as the core of the work. Google says it does not use llms.txt or other AI text files, and none of the OpenAI, Anthropic or Perplexity crawler documentation we read says their search crawlers use llms.txt.
  • Insider data. Google's guide says no third-party tool has access to its internal ranking or AI systems.
  • Mass-produced pages. Pages written for every query variation to steer AI answers risk Google's scaled content abuse policy.

What it costs

We do not publish a price list, and we have not found a trustworthy public benchmark for GEO fees, so we will not offer a market range. We quote in writing after looking at your site.

What we can source are the costs of the monitoring tools that sit inside many engagements, from the pricing pages we read in November 2026:

  • Otterly.AI lists a Lite plan at USD 29 a month for 15 prompts.
  • Peec AI lists Starter at USD 95 a month for 50 prompts.
  • Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools carry no subscription.

Those are tool costs, not agency fees. Our tools comparison sets out the rest.

What moves a quote up or down:

Cost driver Effect
Number of pages to rewrite The largest driver when content is written for you
Languages and markets Each needs its own prompt set and checks
Prompts tracked and cadence More prompts and shorter intervals take more time or a bigger tool plan
Technical state of the site A site with blocked pages or heavy scripts needs fixing first
Who writes the content Your team, ours, or a mix

If an agency charges a full retainer for SEO and another for GEO, ask what is different, because most of the work is the same. The SEO cost guide shows how to read an SEO quote, and the same questions apply.

The order the work should happen in

A sensible engagement runs in phases, and the order matters more than the calendar. We do not promise durations, because they depend on your site.

  1. Audit. Baseline prompts, crawl and access review, and a list of the pages that matter. Nothing is changed yet.
  2. Access fixes. Robots.txt and firewall changes come first because they are cheap and quick to apply. OpenAI says changes can take about 24 hours to affect its search results.
  3. Content in batches. Start with the pages closest to revenue. Each batch gets a before and after, so you can see what changed.
  4. Profile and mention work. Fix inconsistent details, then plan genuine mentions. Google's guide says manufactured mentions are less useful than they appear.
  5. Monitoring. The same prompts, runs and settings each month, so results are comparable.

Be wary of a plan that starts with content at volume. It spends your budget before anyone has checked whether the bots can read the pages.

How to compare two proposals

  1. Does each deliverable name pages, prompts and bots?
  2. Is the measurement method written down, including the number of runs per prompt?
  3. Is read-only access enough to do the audit?
  4. Does the contract say what happens if results do not change?
  5. Does the proposal avoid any guarantee of citations or rankings?

Google's own hiring advice, which we use here, also asks providers to show examples of previous work and to say whether their AI optimization advice aligns with Google's guidance.

Who should skip this

If your site has fewer than about 20 pages that matter, the free reports and a monthly spreadsheet may be enough. Read the AI search optimization guide, do the access check yourself, and come back if you want help.

Frequently asked questions

What do GEO services include?

Usually an audit of where you appear in AI answers, a review of crawler access, rewrites of named pages, fixes to business details across profiles, and monthly monitoring. Ask for each item in writing, with the pages and prompts named.

How much do GEO services cost?

We know of no reliable public price benchmark, so we do not quote a market range. Cost depends on pages, markets, prompts tracked and whether content is written for you. Among the trackers we compared, entry prices in November 2026 start at USD 29 a month (Otterly.AI Lite). We quote in writing.

Which generative engine optimization service is best for AI products?

The best fit is a provider that can explain how its advice matches the engines' own documentation and shows how it measures results. For AI products, ask about developer documentation, crawler access and whether the provider tests prompts your buyers really use.

Can a GEO provider guarantee I will be cited?

No. Google says indexing and serving are never guaranteed, and the AI companies publish no promise of placement. A provider can improve what you control and measure outcomes. A guaranteed citation is a reason to look elsewhere.
