How to Choose a Web Design Company in Cyprus

An honest buyer's guide, written by a studio that is itself new and has no ranking to boast about.

Short answer

There is no single best web design company in Cyprus, only the best fit for your brief. Give 3 to 5 suppliers the same written brief, then score each on 8 checks: scope, ownership, language, speed, search, support, price and references. A new supplier with no portfolio can still pass if the other checks are strong.

Why this guide does not name a winner

Every "best web design company in Cyprus" list is written by someone with a reason to write it, often the companies on it. We do not publish a list. In our October 2026 analysis, eight Cypriot digital agencies together held only eight relevant top-10 Google rankings for their service keywords, and the strongest held four. Coverage for small sites is a floor, so the real figure may be higher, but the pattern is clear enough: where an agency ranks tells you little about whether it can do your job.

Use a process instead. Write one brief, send it to three to five suppliers, and score what comes back.

The eight checks

Check What to ask A good answer A bad sign
1. Scope What exactly is included, page by page? A written list with exclusions "Everything you need"
2. Ownership Whose name are the domain, hosting and design files in? Yours, from day one The supplier holds the domain
3. Language Who writes and checks Greek and English copy? Named fluent writers Machine translation
4. Speed What will you measure on phones? Google's targets: LCP 2.5 seconds or less, INP 200 milliseconds or less, CLS 0.1 or less "It will be fast"
5. Search What is built in for search? URLs, headings, redirects, structured data, tracking "SEO is extra" with no list
6. Support What happens after launch? Hours, response time and price in writing Open-ended "we are always available"
7. Price Is every cost listed, including VAT? Itemized, with the 19% VAT shown A single total with no breakdown
8. References Can I speak to someone who used you? Contactable references or clear explanation of why none exist Screenshots with no names

Score each from 0 to 2 and total them. In our view a supplier that scores well on checks 1, 2 and 7 is usually a safer bet than one with glossy references and a vague scope.

What goes into a good brief

Suppliers can only be compared if they answer the same question. Write one page that covers:

  1. What the business does and for whom, in three sentences.
  2. What the site must achieve, as a number: enquiries a month, bookings, sales.
  3. The pages you expect, and the languages.
  4. What you already have: logo, photos, text, an existing site and its address.
  5. Features you need, separated into must-have and nice-to-have.
  6. Your budget range and your deadline. Suppliers who know the budget propose something that fits.
  7. Who approves work, and how fast they reply.

Send the same page to every supplier and ask for a written reply within a fixed date.

Scoring three quotes: an illustration

The scores below are invented to show the method. Each check is scored 0 to 2, so the maximum is 16.

Check Supplier A (freelancer) Supplier B (agency) Supplier C (new studio)
Scope 2 2 2
Ownership 1 2 2
Language 1 2 1
Speed 1 1 2
Search 0 2 2
Support 1 2 1
Price 2 1 2
References 2 2 0
Total 10 14 12

Supplier B wins on the score, but note what the table shows about C: a new supplier with no references loses two points and can still beat a freelancer on everything else. Whether the gap in price between B and C justifies the missing references is your decision, and the table makes it visible.

Local or remote?

Local suppliers can meet you in person, and they are likelier to know Greek and Cypriot buying habits. Remote suppliers may cost less and offer wider skills. Neither is automatically better.

Ask the same question of both: what have you built for a customer like mine, and what did you do about language, payments and VAT? The 2021 census found that about a quarter of residents (9.3% in other EU countries and 15.4% outside the EU) were born abroad, so a Cyprus site often serves mixed-language audiences. Google recommends separate URLs for each language and warns against automatic language redirects, so check that a supplier knows this.

Read the quotes together

One web studio based outside Cyprus estimates, in an October 2026 article, that freelancers in Cyprus charge about EUR 1,200 to 4,500 and local agencies EUR 4,000 to 18,000 and up for a professional firm's website. It calls these ballparks, not official figures, and it sells websites itself. It also stresses three-year cost, not only the build price. Use our website cost guide to line up quotes on the same basis, including hosting, maintenance and VAT.

If one quote is far lower than the rest, ask what it leaves out. It is usually copy, photography, a second language or support.

A twenty-minute reference call

If a supplier gives you a reference, ask:

  1. What was the brief, and did the result match it?
  2. Was it on time and on budget, and what changed along the way?
  3. Who handled problems after launch?
  4. Do you own your domain, hosting and files?
  5. Would you hire them again, and for what?

Frequently asked questions

How much is a web design?

One web studio based outside Cyprus estimates, in an October 2026 article, that freelancers in Cyprus charge about EUR 1,200 to 4,500 and local agencies EUR 4,000 to 18,000 and up for a professional firm's website. It calls these ballparks, not official figures, and it sells websites itself. Get written quotes against one brief.

What is a web design example?

As an illustration, a dental clinic website has a page per treatment, named dentists, opening hours, a map, a booking route and a privacy notice. It is designed around what patients ask, not around a template.

How much does it cost to form a company in Cyprus?

Official Registrar fees are EUR 10 per proposed name and EUR 165 for incorporation. A Cyprus lawyer must swear the statutory declaration that goes with the incorporation papers, and their fee is extra. Our company formation cost guide itemizes what to budget.

Should I pick the cheapest quote?

Rarely. Cheaper quotes may leave out copy, photography, hosting, languages or maintenance. Compare scope line by line, and also compare the three-year cost, not only the build price.

Do I need a local supplier in Cyprus?

Not necessarily. Local suppliers help with Greek, local search and in-person meetings. Remote suppliers can do good work if they understand Cyprus customers, taxes and payment options. Ask for evidence of that understanding.
