Short answer

A white label forex broker is a brand that runs on another firm's platform, liquidity or licence, in one of 3 common deal types. None gives you a licence of your own. If your brand faces retail clients, check who legally provides the service, because in the EU a firm appointing a tied agent stays fully responsible.

What does white label mean in forex?

White label is a sales term with no legal definition in the rules we reviewed, so it can describe at least three different deals. Find out which one you are being offered before you discuss price.

Deal What you get Licence position Who contracts with the client
Technology white label Branded platform, client portal and back office from a vendor You still need your own authorisation You
Broker white label A partner's licence, liquidity and operations under your brand You act for the partner, often as a tied agent The partner
Introducing broker Commission for referring clients to a broker Depends on what you do and where The broker

A quick test works in most cases. Read the draft client agreement and the risk disclosure, and find the legal entity named in them. That entity is providing the service, whatever the website logo says.

Who carries which duty?

Duties follow the regulated service. Marketing a brand does not move them, so sketch this table out with your partner before you agree terms.

Duty Technology white label Broker white label Introducer
Holding authorisation You Partner Partner
Client money You Partner Partner
Appropriateness test You Partner Partner
Approving marketing You Partner, with you supplying Partner, with you supplying
Risk warning and loss percentage You Partner's figure Partner's figure
Complaints You Partner, with your support Partner, with your support
Regulatory reporting You Partner Partner
Getting clients You You You

This table shows the usual allocation, and your contract may differ. The practical point for marketers is the last row: you do the work with the highest compliance risk, and a regulated partner has to answer for it. A serious partner will want tight control over your marketing, and that is a good sign.

What do EU rules say about brand partners?

The closest EU concept is the tied agent, and it is more demanding than most white label pitches suggest. ESMA's February 2022 supervisory briefing is not binding, but it shows what supervisors expect. A tied agent acts for only one firm, under that firm's full and unconditional responsibility.

Four expectations matter if you want your own brand.

  • Clear capacity. Clients should immediately understand they are dealing with the firm through a tied agent. ESMA says the agent should avoid references, email accounts or phone numbers associated with a different entity.
  • Real monitoring. The firm should get regular information, including proof that the agent disclosed the firm's name, and should avoid relying on high-level attestations.
  • Substance in the EU. Tied agents should not mainly rely on resources based outside the EU.
  • No shared sales staff. ESMA says firms should avoid agents whose sales staff are also at the disposal of other entities, especially third-country ones.

ESMA also says supervisors should carefully scrutinise firms whose business mainly consists of appointing tied agents with close links to third-country entities. So a strong independent brand, run from outside the EU and sitting on a thin European licence, is exactly the shape regulators question. Do not treat a white label as a way around authorisation.

In Cyprus, CySEC's fee directive charges EUR 3,000 for an application to register a tied agent, and EUR 3,000 for a firm to use tied agents established in another member state.

What does a white label forex broker cost?

We give no headline number here. Pricing is mostly private, and the figures in vendor blogs rarely explain what they include. The cost has these parts, and you can model each one.

Cost driver How it is usually charged Question to ask
Setup One-off fee What exactly is included?
Platform and portal Monthly minimum What happens above the minimum?
Revenue share Share of spread or commission Which number is it calculated on?
Liquidity Built into pricing Who earns the markup?
KYC Per check Is it included?
Payments Percentage per deposit Whose merchant account is it?
Legal review Fixed or hourly Your lawyer, not the partner's
Marketing Your budget Who pays for compliance review?

For scale on one line, Sumsub's published list prices in November 2026 were USD 1.35 to USD 1.85 per verification, with monthly minimums of USD 149 to USD 299. That is one vendor's list price, and we name it as a reference point only.

Searches for "cheapest" or "free" white label deals miss the point. A low setup fee is often recovered through a larger revenue share, so compare the total at your expected volume over 24 months. Also ask how the partner earns on your clients' trades, since that affects both your costs and any conflict of interest.

Budget time as well as money. If you form a Cyprus company for the brand, opening a business bank account is now usually the slowest step, and a white label business will get close questions.

Ten terms to check before you sign

  1. Named entity. Which company appears on the client agreement?
  2. Countries. Which markets are permitted, in writing?
  3. Marketing approval. Who approves, how fast, and what records are kept?
  4. Client data. Who owns it, and can you export it on exit?
  5. Client migration. What happens to clients if either side terminates?
  6. Revenue share. The definition, the calculation, and your right to audit it.
  7. Service levels. Uptime, withdrawals and support response.
  8. Platform dependency. What is the plan if a platform licence ends?
  9. Regulatory change. Who pays if rules change the product?
  10. Exclusivity. Can you work with another partner? A tied agent generally cannot.

Term eight is a real risk. Finance Magnates reported in June 2026 that industry estimates put prop firm closures at 80 or more during 2024 to 2026, many after MetaQuotes withdrew platform support. Those are estimates about a neighbouring sector, but the lesson holds for anyone renting a critical platform.

How does marketing work for a white label?

Your marketing is your partner's regulated marketing, in practice. Their warning, their loss percentage and their approval apply to your ads, so agree the workflow before launch. Google's policy limits CFD and rolling spot forex ads to licensed providers or aggregators in select locations, so a white label should confirm whether it qualifies, and should not assume the partner's certification covers it.

The brand question matters for search too. If your site does not state clearly which regulated entity stands behind the service, buyers will be confused, and so will AI assistants. Our guide to AI search for fintech explains how to prevent that, and our fintech and forex SEO service can help you build the site that way from the start.

When is a white label the wrong choice?

Use this rule of thumb.

  • Choose a white label to test whether you can acquire suitable clients in a market where a partner already holds permission.
  • Choose your own licence if you want to own client relationships for the long term. Our guide on how to start a forex brokerage sets out what it takes.
  • Choose neither if your plan depends on serving countries your partner cannot serve.

Before you take any meeting, write down which of the three deals in the first table you actually want. Then ask the vendor to confirm it in writing, naming the entity that will contract with your clients.

This guide is general information, not legal or compliance advice. Check your own obligations with your compliance officer or a qualified adviser before you publish.

Frequently asked questions

What does white label forex broker mean?

It means selling under your own brand while another company supplies some or all of the regulated service, platform or liquidity. The contract decides what you actually are, which is why two white label deals can carry very different legal positions.

How much does a white label forex broker cost?

We found no public price list with a method we trust, and most vendors quote privately. Expect a setup fee, a monthly minimum and a share of trading revenue. Ask for every item in writing and model the revenue share at your expected volume.

Is a free white label forex broker really free?

Usually the partner earns from a share of client spread or commission, so you pay through your margins and your clients pay through their costs. Ask how the partner earns on your flow, and whether that creates a conflict you must disclose.

What is the cheapest white label forex broker option?

The lowest setup fee can be the most expensive deal over time. Compare total cost at your expected client numbers, including revenue share, KYC, payment fees and legal review. Then check what happens to your clients if the partner ends the contract.

Does a white label make me a regulated firm?

No. You gain no authorisation of your own. Depending on what you do, you may need to be a registered tied agent or hold your own permission. Take regulatory advice in each country you plan to serve.
